Give Kids a Smile

Last Saturday, February 5th, 2011, 76 children were given a reason to smile. OneWorld dentists and staff alongside Creighton University dental students and faculty hosted the third annual "Give Kids a Smile" event. Over $16,000 worth of dental care was provided to almost 80 children free of charge. In order to qualify patients had to come from uninsured households and be in need of dental care. Thanks to the warm and generous doctors, staff, and students at both OneWorld and Creighton University, 76 children in the Omaha community were provided with 133 sealants, 8 fillings, and 5 extractions. Although a few patients might have left with numbness - all left with a better smile. :)

Brand New EHR Blog

If you are still checking this blog regularly (all 14 of you), let me start by saying thank you. Most of you know that the blog was started as a tool to make sure that everyone knew what was going on as OneWorld was implementing the NextGen EHR. Well, OneWorld has been up and running on the NextGen EHR for some time and things are going great. In the future this blog will continue to be updated periodically with information that is pertinent to the staff of OneWorld Community Health Centers.

I know that you will all miss your EHR related content on this blog but don't panic...There is a new blog that was launched today by the staff of the Heartland Community Health Network. Heartland is what is known as a Health Center Controlled Network whose members include OneWorld, Charles Drew Health Center, Council Bluffs Community Health Center, Nofolk Community Health Care Clinics, and People's Health Center in Lincoln. All of the members have banded together to form Heartland Network with the goal of providing top-quality EPM and EHR support for NextGen and to help each FQHC get the most out of the EHR. Click on the link below to check out the blog of Heartland Network and check back often to see what your favorite EHR people are up to. Let me know if you have any questions.

Merry Christmas

It is the time of year when we create our annual Christmas card that allows all of our friends and family another opportunity to laugh at (with?) us and our attachment to our dog. Before you get started let me answer a few of the more common questions/comments that I know from experience are coming.

1. Yes, we understand that he doesn't look entirely comfortable. My sister and I didn't look entirely comfortable in our matching terrycloth outfits that we wore on vacation in the second grade either. My parents thought it was cute so we wore it. Oscar's parents think his outfit is cute so he has to wear it.

2. Yes we understand that people with kids don't have time for schenanigans like this, that's your loss.

3. He sits there because we give him lots of treats.
